Durham’s name in lights at Lumiere festival

November 20 2009 — by Jesse Lilley
Speirs and Major Associates were part of the design team for the recent Durham Lumiere event in November 2009 curated by Artichoke. Over 75,000 people visited the city during the festival, and cafes, restaurants and shops have reported some of the best business they've had in years.

Huge portraits of 100 people were projected onto the buildings of Durham Market Place as part of the lights festival. The installation was called A Place for the People and was just one of a series of illuminations and performances using light.
