Heriot-Watt awards Jonathan Speirs honorary doctorate

Jonathan Speirs has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Heriot-Watt University in recognition of his contribution to architecture and outstanding achievements in the field of architectural lighting design.

Jonathan received the honorary Doctorate of Science at the Scottish University’s summer graduation ceremony, alongside other distinguished representatives of the arts, industry and science. The award was presented by the Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, Baroness Greenfield and the Laureation was read by Professor Malcolm Chrisp.

For almost 30 years Jonathan Speirs has been a leading practitioner of architectural lighting and has helped grow Speirs + Major into a successful global design firm. In his address, Professor Chrisp acknowledged the great contribution Jonathan has made to architecture, stating that he ‘has influenced the appearance and perception of many major buildings, towns and cities’.
