Old Meets New…

June 01 2010 — by Iain Ruxton
A chandelier in the Hagia Sophia, Istanbul. This particular chandelier is fitted with a selection of LED "incandescent replacement" lamps, obviously as a test...

Some of them were utterly appalling - white plastic candle lamps with cold cold white LEDs visible inside. But some of the others, with exposed and unlensed warm white diodes in clear envelopes, actually felt about right as an incandescent replacement. They're probably not the highest-quality kit... don't know how long they'll last or how efficient they are... but they have to be better than an incandescent candle-lamp.

Fascinating to see new technology in such an old setting, and encouraging that someone was actually thinking about it properly and setting up a decent demonstration/test before rushing in!
