Last week, we conducted initial tests for the competition-winning lighting scheme for San Diego's landmark San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, in collaboration with the
Port of San Diego, artist
Peter Fink, engineers
Buro Happold and mock-up contractor
Pro Cal.
We temporarily illuminated 50% of two pillars to compare the visual brightness of various colours, with the view to minimising the amount of light needed, thereby reducing any potential environmental impact.
Principal Mark Major said: "We are very proud to be associated with this ground-breaking project. We aim to make it an exemplary project in which we create a beautifully illuminated landmark with no damage to the local ecology. The lighting tests showed how little light we need to get a great result."
