Speirs + Major has been appointed to design a new night-time identity for Birmingham's core retail area, together with Make Architects.

Speirs + Major are working with lighting developers at Ruud Lighting to create a modular new system of LED street lights. The designs, based on nano LED technology, will result in a highly usable family of tools for urban lighting tasks. The system will be launched in 2011.

Speirs + Major have been announced as part of the successful team to win the international competition in Copenhagen to create a new pedestrian bridge over the city’s Inner Harbor. The team, which includes bridge designers Flint & Neill and Studio Bednarski, triumphed over an outstanding field of nine other international bridge design groups. Scheduled for completion in 2012, the bridge will be a vital link in the city and become a new focal point in the historic Inner Harbour area.
