Red Dot Award winner

I was lucky enough to recently win a Red Dot design concept award in the Illumination Category. I designed a product called 'Eight', a screw-on plastic connector containing a mini hydroelectric plant, which turns a pair of used PET bottles into a luminous hourglass.

Mark judges WAN Awards

Mark Major was recently asked to help judge the Lighting section of the World Architecture News (WAN) Awards. Along with Florence Lam, Director of Arup, Jane Pavitt, Head of History of Design Department at the Royal College of Art, Tord Boontje, Professor and Head of Design Products at the Royal College of Art, Martyn Roberts, Business Development Manager at OSRAM and David Atkinson, Creative Director of DALD, he narrowed a very talented list down to one winner in both the Product and Project categories. Jonathan Speirs made honorary member of IALD

Jonathan Speirs has been made an honorary member of the International Association of Lighting Designers. The honour, announced during the association's evening awards ceremony held in Philadelphia, USA, was granted in recognition of Jonathan's outstanding commitment to the lighting design profession over several years.

The US-based association has previously conferred honours on several Speirs + Major projects. In 2008, Speirs + Major began a lucky hat-trick winning the association's top Radiance Award three years in a row for Barajas International Airport (2008), 3 More London (2009) and the Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi (2010).

Speirs + Major wins Scottish Design Award

Speirs + Major has won a Scottish Design Award for its lighting of the historical furnaces of Sands Bethworks in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Awards, held since 1998, celebrate the best achievements in Scottish architecture and graphic design.

Speirs + Major are in the running for a Scottish Design Award this year having been nominated for two recent projects, Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and the magnificent steel mills of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Awards, held every year since 1998, celebrate the best achievements in Scottish architecture and graphic design. The winners this year will be announced at an event held on the 19th of May at the Thistle Hotel Glasgow.
