Westminster Abbey

We are delighted to be working with Westminster Abbey on the re-lighting of the interior.

We delivered an initial lighting strategy for this important, historic place of worship in 2016. The study looked at the role lighting plays in the day to day life of the Abbey and its various uses including worship, music, tourism and events.

We are now working to update the lighting throughout the main body of the Abbey, chapels, the Chapter House and Cloisters.

First look at lighting for San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge

May 10 2019 — by Karina Armburg Jennings
Appointments
Last week, we conducted initial tests for the competition-winning lighting scheme for San Diego's landmark San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, in collaboration with the Port of San Diego, artist Peter Fink, engineers Buro Happold and mock-up contractor Pro Cal.

We temporarily illuminated 50% of two pillars to compare the visual brightness of various colours, with the view to minimising the amount of light needed, thereby reducing any potential environmental impact.

Principal Mark Major said: "We are very proud to be associated with this ground-breaking project. We aim to make it an exemplary project in which we create a beautifully illuminated landmark with no damage to the local ecology. The lighting tests showed how little light we need to get a great result."

Third Age of Light VR Experience opens at RSA

March 28 2019 — by Karina Armburg Jennings
Events
A unique experimental Virtual Reality experience has been installed at the Royal Society of the Arts in London. Created by renowned lighting design studio Speirs + Major the 'Third Age of Light' experience examines how London’s public realm might be experienced after dark in the near future.

Following a successful debut in Paris in November 2017, the content has been fully updated to respond to a number of questions as to how societal attitudes and emerging technologies might change our nightscape.

Visitors will able to explore three virtual areas of London in the near future – the South Bank, King’s Cross, and Primrose Hill. Specific themes within each area provide deeper insight into issues such as augmentation, networks, communities and the environment.

The experience can be accessed Monday – Friday 8:30am – 9:00pm via Rawthmells Coffee House, RSA House, 8 John Adam Street, London, WC2N 6EZ until 24th May 2019.
